Study Abroad for a semester in Reunion Island (France)

Study at the Université de la Réunion (France, campus du Moufia) on Reunion Island for a semester or an entire year. Take regular courses with French students enrolled at the Université and live in a dorm on campus.

Immerse yourself in a unique educational experience that combines cultural richness of this French island with cutting-edge training delivered by world-renowned professors. This program places cultural studies at the forefront, giving you the chance to explore the island’s diverse heritage and gain a profound understanding of the forces that have shaped its identity.

The Université de la Reunion (Campus du Moufia) is located in the capital of Reunion Island, Saint Denis. Saint Denis is a captivating city that blends history, culture, and beauty. Nestled between the Indian Ocean and the rugged mountains, the city exudes a unique charm with its colonial architecture, vibrant markets, and lively streets. The city’s rich history offers many historic landmarks, such as the iconic Barachois waterfront and the majestic Notre-Dame de la Délivrance Cathedral. Embracing its multicultural heritage, Saint Denis celebrates its diversity through colorful festivals, music, and delectable creole cuisine. With a bustling atmosphere and a wealth of cultural attractions, Saint Denis, and the whole island, will offer an unforgettable experience.
 
Assisted enrollment requires W&M students to pay tuition and fees directly to the host university. All W&M students will pay housing, some meals, and fees to the Université de la Réunion.

FREN 314/315 or 316
William & Mary students must enroll in the equivalent of 12 US credits. Students will receive a maximum of 12 FREN credits for a semester abroad. These 12 credits will count for a major or minor in French & Francophone Studies. 
 
Eligibility
W&M student in good standing

Program Fees
All assisted enroll students are part of the "visiting student study abroad programme" and pay tuition and fees (total of 890 Euro for 2023-24) as well as housing directly to the host university. 

Students are billed a $475 study abroad fee (2023-24 rate) by W&M. CISI international medical/evacuation insurance is required for all students who study abroad and a fee of $170 per semester (2023-24 rates) is applied to the W&M student account prior to the start of the program.

Students are responsible for airfare and visa costs. Students participating in semester long study abroad programs must have a visa and/or required entry documents. Please familiarize yourself with the requirements prior to applying and begin the application process immediately after you are nominated for the program. As a reminder, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the end of the program.

Housing and meals
University housing will be provided in the local dorm where you will live with other French and International students. 
W&M students pay a fee to the Université de la Réunion that includes both tuition and housing. The Universite offers several locations for meals such as the cafeteria (restaurant universitaire) or various snack and cafes.
