Cardiff University is one of the highest ranked universities in the United Kingdom. The university has over 30,000 students, including approximately 4,000 international students from over 100 countries. The university has 26 academic departments divided into three colleges: Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Biomedical and Life Sciences; and Physical Sciences. Cardiff University has an active student union, which supports over 260 clubs and societies as well as 60 athletic teams and clubs.

The city of Cardiff is the capital and largest city in Wales and is located 145 miles west of London. Wales boasts over 750 miles of coastline and more than 600 castles, and is home to three of the UK's National Parks: Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire Coast, and Brecon Beacons. The city of Cardiff is Wales’ most popular tourist destination, with numerous museums, shopping areas, parks, and music and athletic venues. Cardiff is a two-hour train journey to London and also has an international airport with daily flights to many cities within Europe. Cardiff's climate is characterized by mild weather.

The campus is a 10 minute walk from the city center and the majority of student housing is within walking distance from campus and city center.

Terms:
Fall Semester (Late Sept--Late Dec)
Spring Semester (Late Jan--June)
Academic Year (Late Sept--Mid-June)

Application Deadlines:
Fall Semester: March 15
Spring Semester: October 2
Academic Year: March 15

After students are nominated by W&M they must submit an online application by October 31 (spring) and April 15 (fall). Students will need to include a list of provisional course module choices, in order of preference, along with 2 reserve modules.

Course Information:
Students may enroll in a wide range of courses across various disciplines. History courses are difficult to find in the Spring semester, as most are year-long modules. Cardiff is a good option for W&M business students.

20 CU credits = 5 W&M credits
10 CU credits = 3 W&M credits

Except for History, all courses must be pre- or post-approved. History courses will be automatically approved as HIST 299 once students submit a syllabus to the Global Education Office at Reves. Grades will not appear on transcripts or be included in GPA calculations.

Program Fees:
The tuition exchange agreement between the College of William & Mary and Cardiff University allows W&M students to pay their regular tuition and fees to W&M while taking classes at Cardiff. Students will pay for housing, meals, and other fees on site in Cardiff.

A $375 application fee is required at time of application.  This must be paid at the Cashier's Office in Blow Hall.  International medical/evacuation insurance is required for all students who study abroad and a fee of $170 is applied to the students account prior to the start of the program. Students are responsible for airfare and visa costs.

Students participating in semester long study abroad programs must have a visa and/or required entry documents. Please familiarize yourself with the requirements prior to applying and begin the application process immediately after you are nominated for the program. As a reminder, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the end of the program.

Housing and Meals:
Room and board are paid to Cardiff University. W&M students will reside in single occupancy bedrooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms. The cost of housing ranges depending on accommodation type. More information on residences can be found here.  Students apply to the Cardiff online SIMS system once accepted.

Eligibility:

Dates / Deadlines:
Term Year App Deadline Decision Date Start Date End Date
Academic Year 2018-2019 03/15/2018 04/01/2018 TBA TBA
NOTE: 1. Applications are first reviewed by the Reves Center, and students nominated for the program are notified. Application materials are then sent to the school abroad (and the school abroad often requests additional materials at this time). When the school abroad completes their application review, students are then notified of the final acceptance decision. This timeline varies greatly from school to school. In rare cases a student nominated by the Reves Center will not be selected by the school abroad to attend their university; the Reves Center would then explore further options for the student. 2. Any start and end dates listed are to serve as a guide for general planning, but specific dates are subject to change and may not include mandatory orientation programs or exams.
