CIEE Advanced Liberal Arts Program in Brussels, Belgium

In international Brussels – the heart of Europe – you’re perfectly positioned to embrace university life like European students do. Take your advanced French skills even further, get a front row seat to explore Belgian politics and culture, and take advantage of full access to thecurriculum at prestigious Université Libre de Bruxelles.

In Brussels you will: logo
  • Challenge yourself with coursework taught in French, in topics ranging from film to political science.
  • Learn beyond the classroom with visits to European Union institutions, The Hague, the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and NATO.
  • Jump into campus life with the help of ULB student mentors.

Established in 1994, the CIEE Study Center in Brussels launched a pilot for this program 2006, and formalized it in 2009. The Advanced Liberal Arts program is designed for students with upper-level French language skills who want the challenge of studying in French at a European university. The program is particularly well-suited for those with an interest in communications, language, literature, philosophy, history, political science, and business and economics.

Students have full access to the curriculum at Université Libre de Bruxelles. Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB ULB hosts 24,200 students, 32% of whom come from abroad, and offering three-year undergraduate degrees, organized by faculty. The CIEE Advanced Liberal Arts program is associated with the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and the Solvay Brussels School for Management and Economics. The main campus – Solbosch, in southeast Brussels – includes the Faculties of Letters, Translation and Communication and Philosophy, Political and Social Sciences, and the Solvay Brussels School for Economics and Management.

Students agree to speak only French during the program, to encourage language and cultural acquisition. The CIEE core course is taught by our Resident Director. University courses are taught by faculty from ULB.
