Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is an enchanting city, a maze of cobbled alleys lined with opulent palaces, quaint shops, churches, and cafés, all steeped in history. From the Hussite Wars of the early 15th century to the political and economic transformation of the past twenty years, Prague and its citizens have witnessed many of Europe’s most momentous changes. Prague's history dates all the way back to the Paleolithic age and stretches over thousands of years, through dynasties, kings and emperors, to become the tourist hot spot it is today. It also boasts a rich culture of art and nightlife and is the fifth most visited city in Europe, following only Paris, London, Istanbul and Rome. It is an ideal site for studying Czech culture and history as well as the transitional economics and politics of the region.
