Internship Program

Central offers a taste of real-life work in a truly vibrant European city. With an extensive network of internship sites in a wide variety of disciplines, your internship experience is tailored to your academic interests and career goals. Past students have interned in art, business, politics, marketing, theater, social services and more. 

Your first two weeks of this eight week program will comprise of classes, activities and excursions providing you with firm understanding of UK life and its workplaces. The remaining six weeks, you will work full-time at your internship placement Monday – Thursday and attend class one evening each week where you examine and discuss your experiences in Britain.

All internships are non-salaried, for credit only and are recommended for undergraduates as well as recent graduates.

London is one of the world's great cities -- home to Shakespeare and Karl Marx, the Rolling Stones and Haydn, and hundreds of other renowned thinkers, artists, musicians and leaders. Experience everything this global capital of art, theatre, politics, finance and music has to offer through Central College Abroad!

Housing and Meals
Vandon House, Westminster, is your home in London. This unbelievable location is within a five-minute walk from Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, St. James' Park and the Houses of Parliament. There are one, two or three students per room in a residence that includes a student lounge, computers, library, offices, laundry, dining room and kitchen. Shop local markets, prepare your own meals, and enjoy the camaraderie of communal kitchen facilities.

A guided tour of London is part of your required class. Also enjoy a day excursion to Stonehenge and the ancient Roman city of Bath. Two West End theatre visits, attending the world renowned Proms concert and a tour of Parliament are also included in the program.   

Students are required to enroll in the following:

CRCL 790L - Aspects of UK Life 3 S.H.
This course is designed to help students examine and discuss their own experiences in Britain and discover the aspects of British life and culture that underlie them. Students will attend and participate in visits, excursions and lectures during orientation and throughout the program. To supplement these activities, students complete three London-based experience assignments, attend and participate in weekly seminars to discuss and share cross-cultural and working issues. A journal with regular entries recording cultural experiences and a final exam paper on the theme of personal growth and development as result of the London experience are required.

Internship 3 S.H.
In addition to the required Aspects of UK Life course, students in London work at an internship four days each week - earning 3 hours of credit.

The program fee also includes:

  • 6 semester hours of credits (pass/no record): 3 internship credits and 3 cross-cultural credits
  • Accommodation in Vandon House with daily continental breakfast
  • On-site advising and oversight with London program director and staff
  • Personal Central College Abroad Advisor for pre-departure support
  • Optional online pre-departure course
  • Full on-site orientation including guided city tour and evening "Ghost Walk"
  • Two-month Travelcard for Zones 1 & 2 on London underground and buses ($250-$300 value)
  • Lectures on contemporary British events
  • International Student House Membership (leisure and gym facilities)
  • International Student Indentification Card (ISIC)
  • Transcript

Airfare is not included.
Deadline for Applications: March 1, 2012. Space is limited. A completed application file must include: application, essay, transcript, two faculty evaluation forms, study abroad approval form, and internship application. Apply now.
