toledo cathedralIf you are interested in experiencing the Spanish workplace in addition to your academic program, the internship program in Toledo provides the opportunity to gain first-hand work experience in a Spanish organization. The internship program is coupled with an academic seminar, worth three credits, in which students discuss topics related to living and working in Spain. Students typically spend seven hours per week at the internship site and one and one-half hours per week in class discussing various topics related to working in Spain.

Past placements have included:

  • The Regional Parliament in Castilla La Mancha
  • Toledo City Hall
  • The Santa Cruz Museum
  • La Cruz Roja (Spanish Red Cross)
  • The Chamber of Commerce of Toledo
  • The Council of Education
  • Radio Nacional de Espaa (national radio station)
  • La Tribuna (local newspaper)

NEW Service Learning Opportunity
Beginning this fall, students at the Fundacin may take a three-credit language and culture course called Spain and the Immigrants. This course, combined with a service learning opportunity at a non-governmental organization in the Toledo community, focuses on the burgeoning immigration phenomenon in Spain and its struggle to integrate the newly-arrived settlers from diverse backgrounds into the community. Students take the course in conjunction with a placement at one of a number of local non-governmental organizations.

The combination of classroom instruction and experiential work gives students insight into the complexities of immigration, and its effect on the community.

The Arcadia Advantage
Before you arrive in Toledo, you can contact our program manager for advice on the application process, choosing courses, or simply what you should pack. Once you arrive, our resident director (in conjunction with the Fundacin staff) will lead an orientation program that will introduce you to the culture, history and politics of Spain as well as preparing you for the academic challenges of studying in a different educational system.
