Canterbury's academic program is divided amongst five colleges and a school of law. It is well-known for its engineering program, and it is only one of two universities in New Zealand to offer this major. It is the only university to offer speech and language therapy, and astronomy. The university boasts a number of field stations for the study of marine science and geology. It has particular strengths in engineering, biological sciences, chemistry, anthropology, religious studies, philosophy and law, and offers an Antarctic studies program.
As an overseas student at Canterbury, you will enroll in 3 or 4 courses per semester for a total of 14-16 hours of credit per semester, or 28-32 per academic year. Canterbury has an international student population of 2,000, with students hailing from all over the globe.International Students are provided with a wide range of support services. The university also has a comfortable and relaxed International Student Support Center, staffed by advisors who are available to assist you throughout your Study Abroad program.
