School of Oriental & African Studies
University of London
The School of Oriental and African Studies, or SOAS, as it is popularly known, is a specialist's dream and is the leading institution in the world dedicated to the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East in all its facets. SOAS provides a small and intimate atmosphere where research and scholarship are paramount. As one might expect, the student body is extraordinarily multicultural - a mini United Nations in its own right. A variety of languages are offered such as Pashto, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi and Yoruba among many more unique course offerings. You can choose to focus on development studies, law, and comparative religions, or music and film and media as it relates to these distinct regions of the world. While SOAS' Russell Square Campus and new Vernon Square Campus are situated in the center of London, you'll appreciate the friendly atmosphere found on each campus. With around 3,500 students, you will easily get to know many of your peers and have the chance to interact with world-class researchers and faculty. And, when it's time for a break from all this cerebral activity, simply stepping out of the building will engulf you in the delightful chaos of London. Steps away are the libraries and Student's Union of the University of London as well as all the resources and distractions of the city.
Arcadia Advantage

Before you go, you can contact our program manager for advice on the application process, choosing courses, or simply what you should pack. Once you arrive, our resident director will lead an orientation program in London that will introduce you to the culture, history and politics of England as well as prepare you for the academic challenges of studying in a different educational system.
