*Must Apply by the Fall Gilman Application Deadline*

The Global Education Office (GEO) will guarantee scholarship funds for W&M Summer faculty-led programs to W&M students who meet specific criteria. We believe in the positive impact of studying abroad and want to make sure study abroad is accessible to all students. GEO hopes to encourage eligible students to apply for the Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship (Gilman) by offering guaranteed funding.  Eligible W&M students who receive a Pell Grant and submit a quality application for the Gilman scholarship will receive a guaranteed $4,000 scholarship if they do not receive the Gilman.  A quality application is one that provides thorough and thoughtful answers for each of the questions, discusses academic and career goals in the essays and incorporates feedback from peer scholarship advisors or a study abroad advisor.  

In order to receive these funds, students must:

1. Be eligible to apply to the Gilman Scholarship during the fall semester (scholarship application typically opens mid-August through October deadline).
2. Attend a Gilman Scholarship Workshop, or view the recording of the session. Link to Fall session is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-vD8bbtTek
3. Email essays to their Study Abroad Advisor for review no later than September 28th. 
4. Submit a quality Gilman application by 11:59 PM on the day of the deadline (please review Gilman website for Fall deadline).
5. Apply to the Reves Summer Scholarship and a W&M Summer faculty-led program by the deadline of December 4.  The guaranteed $4,000 will be used for a W&M Summer faculty-led program.  
6. Register to receive the GEO Griffin Guarantee Scholarship by the Gilman Fall Deadline via the link here.  

Gilman Scholarship Eligibility
(Note: The below requirements are set by the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program)

• A citizen or national of the US
• An undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the US
• Receive a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application
• Applying to or accepted to a study or intern abroad program
• Applying for a credit-bearing study abroad program in a country or area with an overall Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2, according to the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory System. 

Note: Students who complete the required steps will receive $4,000 if they do not receive the Gilman Scholarship.  In addition to the guaranteed $4,000, students could receive additional funding from GEO based on the quality of their Reves Summer Scholarship application. Gilman recipients will be awarded up to $5,000 and could receive additional funding from the Reves Summer Scholarship.
