Program Description:

Founded in 1413, St Andrews is Scotland's oldest university and the third oldest in the English-speaking world. In 2013, St Andrews celebrates its 600th university. The student population of the university is 7,200 with a third of the student body from overseas. The university boasts 17 academic schools and learning centers, and W&M student may select courses from across the full university curriculum.

St Andrews is situated on Scotland's picturesque East Coast. The campus lies in the heart of the town, mingling with shops, offices and houses. Students may avail themselves of a modern, purpose-built library and sports center with playing fields in addition to all other university facilities. Distant hills and the sea are seldom out of view when at St Andrews.

The tuition exchange agreement between the College of William & Mary and the University of St Andrews allows W&M students to pay their regular tuition to W&M while taking classes at St. Andrews.  The exchange program is best for VA in-state students. Students not chosen for the exchange program have the option of assisted enrollment, which requires W&M students to pay tuition directly to St Andrews. Out-of-state students often find that assisted enrollment is the best option. All W&M students will pay housing, meals and fees to St Andrews.

Please note that the exchange and assisted enrollment semester-long programs at St Andrews are not part of the "William & Mary/St Andrews Joint Degree Program". For further information on the joint degree visit

Dates / Deadlines:
Term Year App Deadline Decision Date Start Date End Date
Spring 2017 10/03/2016 10/15/2016 TBA TBA
NOTE: Applications are first reviewed by the Reves Center, and students nominated for the exchange program are notified. Application materials are then sent to the school abroad (and the school abroad often requests additional materials at this time). When the school abroad completes their application review, students are then notified of the final acceptance decision. This timeline varies greatly from school to school. In rare cases a student nominated by the Reves Center will not be selected by the school abroad to attend their university; the Reves Center would then explore further options for the student. 2. Any start and end dates listed are to serve as a guide for general planning, but specific dates are subject to change and may not include mandatory orientation programs or exams.
