Program Description:
Beijing WinterEXTENDED DEADLINE: OCTOBER 7, 2019

Program Information:  
Beijing Normal University's winter program will host 15-20 W&M students for two weeks in January 2020 in collaboration with the William and Mary Confucius Institute. Students will study introductory Chinese language while living at Beijing Normal University. Students will also have the chance to visit historic sites around Beijing such as the Great Wall, Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace. Students will take the bullet train to explore Shanghai during a two night excursion. Students will also have the opportunity to connect with BNU students as language partners at several points throughout the trip. This trip is intended for students with no previous Chinese Language experience as an introduction to Chinese history, culture and language.

Prerequisites: This trip is open to all W&M students (freshmen through graduate level).
Students should have NO previous Chinese Language experience.
Students should already have a passport by the application deadline.

Academics:
All students will be enrolled for 1 credit of Basic Chinese (CHIN 200). This course will serve as an introduction to basic Chinese pronunciation and culture. 
Students will receive credit in the form of transfer credit for this course, which is eligible for 1 credit of COLL300 for this course (this does not fully satisfy the COLL300 requirement). Students grades will not affect W&M GPA and grades will be transferred as "T" for transfer credit.

Flights Purchased: October 23, 2019 (DO NOT purchase flights until program confirmation from program advisor)

Program fee: 
$75 application fee (due by application deadline)
$375 program fee

Costs in China for all meals, accommodation, transportation, group activities, transcript, health insurance and a 2 night excursion to Shanghai during this program.
*Students should note that application fees are non-refundable

Visa: $200 (we will provide visa assistance)
Flights: $650-1400
