, the capital of the Czech Republic, has a rich musical history. There are six professional symphony orchestras, three opera companies in the city, and a variety of first-rate music museums. Prague is also home to a wide variety of musical events during the summer. Students participating in this performance-focused program will learn about the Czech Republic's role in the development of classical music, and will have an opportunity to take private lessons with professional Czech musicians.
William and Mary's summer program in Prague will include guided excursions to sites of cultural interest, including Cesky Krumlov. Students will also attend local opera, music festival, and orchestra performances. Other excursions may include overnight trips to Berlin, Vienna, or Brno.
Students will live in dormitories at Charles University while in Prague.
Students will earn 7 credits. There is a mandatory 1 credit conversational Czech language course, and students will also take courses on Czech Music, as well as a performance-based course. Summer 2018 courses will be:
- TBA (3 credits)
- MDLL 360: Czech Language (1 credit)
There is a required 1 credit course
to be taken in the Spring prior to departure, which you will be registered for following program acceptance. This course is designed specifically for students going on the summer program and is intended to enhance your cross-cultural understanding of Prague and to cover a variety of pre-departure information. The scheduling of this course will be dependent on the class times possible for program participants.
Courses are taught by W&M faculty and faculty at Charles University. Grades will appear on W&M transcript and will be included in GPA calculations.

All College students in good academic standing. Proficiency in a musical instrument. An audition with the program director will be required for program admission.
