Kanazawa University is a national university of Japan and is organized into three main colleges: Human and Social Science, Science and Engineering, and Medical, Pharmaceutical, and Health Sciences. Kanazawa's Program D is open to students who have completed at least two years of college-level Japanese and is available only during the spring (April-August) semester. Program D students focus primarily on intensive Japanese language and also take courses on Japanese culture and society.  Please note: 1 Kanazawa credit equals 1 William & Mary credit.

Overlooking the Sea of Japan, the city of Kanazawa is renowned for its scenic beauty, rich traditional and modern culture, and cordial hospitality. It is approximately five hours by train from Tokyo and is a regional commercial, educational, and artistic center. It is nicknamed the mori no miyako (grove capital) because it retains the beauty, as well as the cultural traditions, of an ancient capital. In modern Kanazawa the great mansions of the warrior class, the waterways, and many historic temple shrines still provide links to the past.

The tuition exchange agreement between the College of William and Mary and Kanazawa University allows William and Mary students to pay their regular tuition to William and Mary while taking classes at Kanazawa. The exchange program is best for VA in-state students. Students not chosen for the exchange program have the option of assisted enrollment. Assisted enrollment requires W&M students to pay tuition to Kanazawa University. Out-of-state students often find assisted enrollment the best option. All W&M students will pay housing, meals and fees on site in Kanazawa.

The Reves Center advisor for Kanazawa University programs is Theresa Johansson.
